Is Belgium living in its safe operating space?
Thank you for everyone who attended our webinar, where we presented the findings of our study, “Does Belgium Live Within Its Safe Operating Space“, conducted for CERAC.
You can register below to watch the replay of the webinar.
Additionally, you can view the executive summary of the study (click on the link) or download the presentation slides (below on this page).
Stay tuned for the final report, which will be published in August.
In this session, we started with an introduction to the planetary boundaries framework, explaining how it can be a vital tool for measuring our environmental footprint and guiding policy towards sustainable resource use.
Next, we shared the results of our study, focusing on six different planetary boundaries to assess whether Belgium is operating within its safe limits. We discussed what a safe operating space means, the challenges of downscaling this concept to a national level, and whether Belgium exceeds these boundaries due to its production and consumption activities.
Our findings provide insights into Belgium’s position relative to these environmental thresholds and highlight areas for improvement to ensure sustainable resource use.
